Molten Lava Cake

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This is a mouth watering, decadent cake; a chocolate dessert that’s good enough for royalty. The finale is a wonderfully beautiful display of tastefulness. You can add the optional topping of vanilla ice cream or powered sugar to improve your presentation.

The ingredients in this sweet treat include: sugar, butter, eggs, flour, vanilla, salt, and semi sweet chocolate chips. This recipe is in the moderate category, as it may take some skill set and attention to detail. However, it’s well worth the energy. When you’re finished, you’ll have enough to serve five individuals.

To start, you’ll want to preheat your oven at 400 degrees, and grease the ramekins. Next you’ll take a large bowl with a mixer. Mix the butter and sugar for roughly 2 minutes. Once this is finished you’ll add the eggs, then the vanilla, last you’ll add the flour and salt. However, make sure to follow the detailed instructions for each of these steps.

Once the batter is evenly divided into the ramekins, place them on a cookie sheet. This will make the transportation, to the oven, a little easier. Bake these until the tops are set. This will take about 10 to 11 minutes. You’ll want to let these cool for a bit before serving. When you serve, flip the ramekins over. Take the ramekin away and serve on the plate. Add optional toppings as you wish.  Share this delight with friends or family. The tasteful concoction will be sure to impress any chocolate lover.

Description by Ashley Horst

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter (at room temperature)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 1/3 cups chopped semisweet chocolate, melted
  • Confectioners sugar (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease 4, 10 ounce ramekins – muffin tins will also work. In a large bowl with a mixer, cream the butter and sugar on medium-high until light and fluffy, about two minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract. With your mixer on low, beat in flour and salt. Finally, beat in chocolate until just combined.
  2. Divide the batter evenly among the ramekins. Place ramekins on a cookie sheet, for easier transportation, and place the sheet in oven. Bake until tops are just set, 10 to 11 minutes, let cool about 10 minutes. Serve in the ramekins or place a plate on top and flip. Remove the ramekin and serve. Optionally, dust with confectioners’ sugar or  serve with vanilla ice cream.
